Richard Smith

Richard D. Smith, aged 68, passed peacefully on May 29, 2026 in Westlake, Ohio after a brief illness. He was born November 27, 1957 in Lorain, Ohio to Donna Smith (née Howell) and Richard J. Smith.

A lifelong resident of Northeast Ohio, he attended Amherst High School and graduated in 1976. Along with his high school diploma, he earned his industrial electronics certification from JVS. In 1977, he married his high school sweetheart, Beth. Together they built a life in North Ridgeville, Ohio where they raised two sons and enjoyed forty-nine years of blissful marriage. He retired from Alco Manufacturing in 2022. During his time on earth, he touched the lives of every person he met with his humor and his generosity. He never turned away a friend. He enjoyed cruising in his classic 1966 Mustang, feeding wildlife and caring for his cats, and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard J. Smith; grandparents, Andrew & Agnes Kovach (Smith) and Edward & Olive Howell; and by a brother who passed at birth.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Beth Smith ( née Salyi); his mother, Donna Smith; sons, Eric Smith and Cory (Lindsey) Smith; sisters, Patty (Frank) Serenari and Kimberly Wilson; several nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Alise Smith, Kaitlin Smith, Tyler Hatfield, Nathan Smith, Addison Smith; great-granddaughter, Elena Rumack; and numerous extended family and friends.

A private service will be held at the Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home in Lorain, Ohio. Memorial contributions can be made to the Lustgarten Foundation.
