Marilyn Murphy Butchko, 84, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 12, 2025.
Daughter of Frank and Anna (Judge) Murphy, Marilyn was born on October 14, 1940. She was a lifelong Lorain resident and a graduate of St. Mary’s High School, Class of 1958. She worked at Lorain City Schools, Joseph and Feiss, and the Renaissance Hotel. Best known as Nana, Marilyn was a homemaker, being the best mom to her girls and Nana to all her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all of their friends who met her. Nana was a natural caretaker and missed her babies as her grandchildren went off to school, so, in retirement, she began babysitting nieces, nephews, and friends of the family’s children to still get her baby fix. She loved her family dearly and dedicated her life to them.
She will be greatly missed by her four daughters, Deatra Kopis, Darla Gerace (Leonard), Dawn Redmond (Keith), and Deborah Bryant (Shawn Rinker); son-in-law, Charles Kopis; her 13 grandchildren, Brenden Kopis (Katy), Breanna Dull (Brian), Vincent Gerace (Amber), Nicholas Gerace (Lexi), Landyn Sito (Jack), Monica Gerace (Naomi), Tyler Redmond, Murphy Redmond, Tanner Redmond (Sophia), Lukas Redmond (Maddy), Cameron Bryant (Brittany), Collin Bryant (Allison), and Kenadee Bryant (Sarah); and 10 great-grandchildren, with one on the way. She is also survived by her sister, Margaret Houston; brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Diane Murphy; sister-in-law, Rosemarie Murphy; in-laws, Ken and MaryJo Kamnikar, George and Sally Bescak, and Tim and Nancy Breeden; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Marilyn was preceded in death by her brother, Patrick Murphy and brother-in-law, Dwain Houston, both of whom she missed profoundly.
