Barbara McGrady, R.N.

Barbara McGrady, R.N., wife of Paul David and loving mother of three, passed away at
Huntington Woods Rehabilitation Center on Friday, June 13, 2025, after a long illness. She was 76.

Born in Shady Springs, West Virginia, on January 3, 1949, Barbara was the daughter of Ray and Beulah Maxey of Chesapeake, Ohio. She graduated as Salutatorian from Shady Spring High School in 1966, married Paul David in 1967, and earned her degree as a Registered Nurse from Marshall University in 1969. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Oberlin college in 2000.

In 1973, Barbara moved to Lorain, Ohio, where she volunteered at her local church and
elementary school. While raising her children, Paul (Lisa) McGrady, Angela (Todd) McFarland, and Gerald McGrady , she worked as the Director of Nursing at Center Ridge Nursing Home in North Ridgeville, Ohio. Barbara was instrumental in conducting numerous perfect surveys during her tenure and retired in 2009.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Paul David Sr., children, Paul Jr.(Lisa) and Angela; nine grandchildren, Lilian, Daniel, Meredith, Laura, Jordan, Derek, Brieanna, Leah, and Bethany; and six great-grandchildren, Eloise, Evelyn, Donald, David, Kaysley, and Isla. She was preceded in death by her son, Gerald and grandson, Donald.

She was an amazing woman, and it was a privilege to be part of her life. Her only true hobby was her deep devotion to her family, her “Doll Babies”. We will see you again, Mom — “Lord willing and the creek don’t rise,” as we’ve heard her say so many times. “Okie Dokie,” as she’d say with a smile.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain (440) 244-1961 on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at the funeral home, Pastor Rick Young, officiating. A private burial will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
